🏔🥾Hallasan Trails Guide
I have prepared a detailed guide to all 7 official routes of Hallasan National Park: distance, estimated completion time, difficulty level, main checkpoints, and entrance addresses.
Advance booking is required for the two trails leading to the summit and the Baengnokdam crater:
Seongpanak — 성판악; Gwaneumsa — 관음사
No prior registration is needed for the other routes; however, you must adhere to the designated

entry times and mandatory descent start times. During unfavorable weather, certain sections or the entire route may be temporarily closed.

❗️Safety Precautions
The weather on Hallasan can change drastically even within a single hour. Strong winds, heavy fog,

rain, thunderstorms, and sudden temperature drops are possible in the upper sections of the mountain.
Before your hike, be sure to:
check the weather forecast and current trail status; calculate your ascent and descent times in advance; do not start

the trail shortly before the entrance closes; inform relatives which route you have chosen; if possible, do not go on a long hike alone; keep your phone charged and save the emergency service number 119.
Do not overestimate your strength. The Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa routes require good endurance: the total round-trip distance is about 18–19 km.

🏞Code of Conduct
Within the national park territory, it is mandatory to move only along designated trails. It is forbidden to leave the

route, damage plants, pick flowers, or catch animals and insects.
❌The following are also prohibited: smoking; consuming alcohol;
lighting fires; cooking food outside specifically permitted zones; leaving trash; staying overnight in mountain shelters.
All trash must be carried out with you. Mountain shelters are intended for rest and protection from the weather, not for

overnight stays.

☀️What to Pack in Summer
Even in summer, it can be cool and windy at the summit. It is recommended to bring: comfortable trekking sneakers or

boots; a light windbreaker or waterproof jacket; a hat; sunscreen and sunglasses; an adequate supply of water; light snacks; spare socks; a small medical kit; a fully charged phone and a power bank.
There are no shops or permanent water sources on many routes, so water and food must be prepared in advance.

❄️What to Pack in Winter
Winter conditions on Hallasan are significantly more challenging. Ice and packed snow form on the trails, and the temperature at the summit

can be much lower than at the coast.
Mandatory winter gear: warm waterproof trekking boots; ice grips or hiking crampons; gaiters; trekking poles; thermal underwear; an insulating layer; windproof and waterproof outerwear; a hat and warm

gloves; spare socks; a headlamp; a thermos with warm water; high-calorie food; a power bank.
Before a winter hike, it is especially important to check if your chosen route is open. Even with a reservation, the ascent may be canceled due to heavy snowfall, wind, or icing.
You can book a visit to the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa routes, as well as check the current status of the trails, on the

official website:

Save this guide so you don't lose it, and choose a route based on your physical fitness, the season, and weather

conditions~
