Hello everyone!

My name is Artur. Here's the situation… I got injured at a factory while working through an outsource company.

After I got injured, the person from the outsource company I was working with tried to persuade me not to file a work-related injury claim ("sangje"), but I naturally didn't listen to him. After I filed, he told me that I was on my own.

I was hospitalized for a month, and the bill came out to approximately 2,500,000 won. Part of it was returned to my card, but they also took about 900,000 won from me again (they said that some aspects of my treatment were not covered by national insurance). Unfortunately, my Korean is poor, and possibly during my treatment, I agreed to "non-essential" procedures….

Regarding reimbursement, I contacted the "Viguk Center" in Gimhae. They told me that this amount could be requested from the outsource company/factory (I'm a bit confused myself here), but since my relationship with both the outsource company and the factory is, to put it mildly, "bad," that option is out….

I understand that the amount of money is relatively small, but honestly, I feel wronged.

There's another interesting detail in my story: when I applied for the "sangje," a Russian-speaking employee from the outsource company called me and said, "So you don't have any problems, we've officially registered you…" (My visa is H-2. I've checked with knowledgeable people about this; with my visa, I am required to work officially. However, they would have had more problems because *they* hired me on this visa). How did they officially register me if I didn't sign any papers? Is this even legal?

So, in the end, I have two questions:

1) Is it possible to get my 900,000 won back (I have all the receipts)?

2) Are their actions legal? Registering me officially without my consent? From my perspective, they are covering their own backs….

Forgive me if there are any grammatical errors, etc.

I genuinely don't know where to turn with these questions…

    Hello! Arthur
I am the administrator of this site.
I am Korean, but I feel very sorry that such things are still happening in Korea.
If you received treatment that is not covered by health insurance, as you said, you probably won't get the 900,000 won back.
However, this is something that can only be determined after a detailed review of your situation.
And if the company signed a "labor contract" without your knowledge, that is a very serious illegality.
I am not an expert, so it is difficult for me to give you a more definitive answer.
If you wish, Arthur, I can check with a "labor attorney" I know about what you should do in your situation.
Please write your situation in more detail in the comments. (When, where, how, what)
I will do my best to help you.
