we have learned that there are plans to unify the residency statuses of overseas Koreans into a single F-4 status.

While these are only plans for now, I suggest reviewing a detailed guide on the H-2 visa.
○ Overseas Koreans from China and the former Soviet Union (CIS) region aged 18 and older are issued a multiple-entry visa 
(H-2), which guarantees free entry/exit within the visa's validity period; a period of stay of up to 3 
years is granted (with proof of Korean language proficiency), and if certain conditions are met, the period of stay can be extended 
within the permitted limits.

If anyone finds this information useful, I would be very happy. If this guide is no longer needed because 
the visas are indeed unified, I will be twice as glad.
