Many have heard of KIIP (Korea Immigration & Integration Program), but not everyone understands whether it's worth spending time on training and who actually needs it. This post will help you decide if you need KIIP and what real benefits it offers.
KIIP is a government social integration program for foreigners in Korea.
It includes:
1. Korean language and culture courses (levels 0–4)
2. Korean society understanding course (level 5)
KIIP can be useful if you:
1. plan to live in Korea long-term and want to confidently handle everyday and administrative matters
2. want to prepare for a change in your residence status, permanent residency, or citizenship (depending on your situation)
3. want to improve your Korean not only for conversation but also for documents, work, and communication with government agencies
4. want to have an official document confirming completion of program stages and assessment results
I do not recommend registering if you are not prepared to attend classes regularly and pass exams (it is best to complete KIIP
disciplinedly)
Starting from 2025, participation in KIIP has become paid for levels 1–5
* Levels 1–4: 100,000 won per level
* Level 5: basic course for permanent residency (70 hours) - 70,000 won
advanced course for citizenship (30 hours) - 30,000 won
* Level 0 (15 hours) and exemption categories (about discounts and exemptions in another post) - free
The next post will feature an analysis and a step-by-step tutorial on how to register for KIIP courses.
If you need the schedule for preliminary assessments, please check previous posts.
